God Is Good

Do you believe God is Good in every situation? This Month I invited Anisa Mathews to write a newsletter for us. She talks about how despite what we have going on in our lives God remains good.

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27‬:‭13‬ ‭

For the longest I lived a life dictating how good life was by what I had.

My feelings and emotions would be dependent upon if I had everything that I wanted.

With this is mind I also dictated if God was good in my life if He answered my prayers, met every need, gave me my desires, or gave me what I needed.

I know this is a silly way to view God but at the time this was my view of his goodness.

For some of us we can lose hope because we are not viewing God’s goodness in the way that we should.

But after some thought I realized that God is good beyond my circumstances.

God is good beyond what I get or don’t get.

He is good even if He doesn’t answer another prayer of mine.

I had to stop and evaluate how I was thinking and asked myself this question: If you weren’t to receive anything else in your life from God, if He didn’t answer anymore of your requests would He still be good to you?

And as I reflected on this question I was sitting there puzzled like wow! I never thought about that .

Because as I said before too often I used to

always dictate how good God was by how he answered my prayers, by what he did in my life, by what He was giving me.

I used to ask him for different things like Lord

help me pass this test, Lord help my family members get saved, help me get this job etc.

However, I had to realize that even if these things don't get answered will I still believe that God is good?!

Too often we can focus on what God is not doing or focus on what He has to do in our lives or focus on things that I think he should do without first saying that He is good simply because He IS GOD! Too often we value the goodness of God based on how we think things should go. We have to be able to view God as good as He is. Because I know if i were God nobody would be alive. We have to think about the things that we do on a daily basis.

We take for granted how much God is gracious to us. He’s so gracious and kind to us and a forgiving God that He allows us to be who we are and make mistakes yet He still loves us.

He still blesses us and yet he still gives to us the chance of everlasting life.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭

However, even if he doesn't give you anything else will you still think that God is good?

If He doesn't answer that prayer that you've been praying for years, if he doesn't heal your body, if he doesn't give you a new car, another job, clarity, direction, is He still good?!

We can’t stay in the misconception where God is good only because he gave you a car,

he answered your prayer, he got you into the school you wanted, because He woke me up this morning and gave me breathe. Yes, all those things are signs of the goodness of God but despite all those things is God still good in your life.

We have to look beyond what we see and view the goodness of God because of who He is not because of what he gives us. Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭reminds us “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

I believe that comes with maturing in God and believing that God is greater than what we see, God is greater than what we get, God is greater than what we receive!

But God is good because He is God and we have to realize He’s just good because he's God. There’s no other way to explain it or to put it but we just have to be in awe of who He truly is .

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭33‬:‭8‬ ‭

If we're not able to comprehend who God is, I believe that it will have negative effects on our lives. It restricts from seeing the beauty of who He is and all that He already is without having to obtain anything else in life!

“Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭96‬:‭9‬ ‭

If we're not able understand who God is in our lives we limit ourselves to just the bare minimum of what He has in store for us. We are able to dive into His Word and see how good He is and just looking at our lives and to see who he is to us. So remember that God is good not because of what He does but because of who He is to you.

That’s why it is so important to have relationship and fellowship with God.

He’s loving, kind, merciful , gracious and yet faithful when we were faithless. (“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” II Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬)

That verse in itself shows how He never give up on us. That even when we deny Him, run from Him, or simply get angry at him for not doing certain things. He is yet still Faithful and good to us! How amazing is that?!

Sometimes we all fall short of realizing the goodness of God. But let’s choose to make it a daily habit of viewing the goodness of God as we should.

God is good because He is God! Amen.

“Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭11‬:‭22‬ ‭‬‬
